THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram Medical College performed caesarean section and neurosurgery simultaneously on a woman who was critically injured in a car accident. A woman from Veli was taken to the casualty section, a multidisciplinary team was quickly set up to save the mother and the baby. The woman was brought to the medical college around 10.30 am and underwent surgery at 11 am in the emergency operation theatre after expert examination. Currently, the woman is in the Medical College ICU and the baby is in critical care unit in SAT hospital. The doctors informed that the health condition of both of them is satisfactory.
Health Minister Veena George congratulated all the health workers for their exemplary service that saved the mother and baby. This is also the success of the Quality Improvement Initiative that was devised and implemented in the Medical College. As part of this project, the services of the main departments were made available in the casualty itself. The services of senior doctors were also available 24 hours in the casualty.
The accident occurred yesterday morning when the bike the woman and her husband travelled collided with an auto. The woman, who suffered severe head injuries, was taken to a private hospital in the capital city where she was consulting. From there, the woman was taken to the Medical College Hospital.
