MALAPPURAM: Natives of Malappuram and Wayanad were held for trying to smuggle gold by hiding it in their rectum. The air customs intelligence wing and DRI from Kozhikode seized the gold of Rs 3.65 crore. 3386 grams of gold compound and 428 grams of gold were seized. Muhammed Safwan (24) of Malappuram, Anwar Saddique (27) of Kozhikode, Arshad Ira (30) of Wayanad and Abdul Raees (44) of Puthupady were taken into custody. They are suspected to be carriers.

Muhammed Safwan came in SpiceJet from Abu Dhabi. When questioned him in detail on suspicion, gold in four capsules were found hidden in rectum. Anwar Saddique, who came in SpiceJet’s Sharjah-Kozhikode flight, hid the gold in his underwear. Arshad Ira came in Oman Air’s Muscat-Kozhikode flight. He also hid the gold in his rectum.

Abdul Raees, who came in Spice Jet's Dubai-Kozhikode flight, tried to smuggle gold into twelve metal plates inside a torch battery. They were arrested based on information received earlier.
