Transgender activist and make-up artist Renju Renjimar shares her experience of being stuck at Dubai airport for 30 hours. Renju said that the airport officials tried to deport her alleging forgery in passport. She stated that finally she was able to leave the airport after the lawyers and the officials of the Indian Consulate informed details to the authorities. She shared her experience through a video shared on Facebook.
In her new passport, her gender was mentioned as female and in the old one as male, which caused confusion among the airport officials. She has visited Dubai many times after gender reassignment surgery. But this time, when they checked the travel history in the immigration, it was noticed that her gender was recorded as male. With this, their move was to deport her on the suspicion of falsifying passport. But she was not ready to return. Later, with the help of her friends, Renju informed the matter to the airport authorities. The Indian Consulate and Dubai Immigration officials intervened in the matter. As a result, she was allowed to stay in Dubai.
Renju arrived at Dubai airport on Monday morning in connection with her beauty care business in Dubai. She had to stay in the airport all night and only came out the next morning. Through the video, she said that people from the transgender community can now come to Dubai boldly and that she is happy to pave the way for it.
