VIJAYAWADA: The CPI on Thursday said that the Congress has not been able to build a strong opposition unity against the BJP. The draft political resolution of the 24th Party Congress of the CPI stated that there is no clarity or credibility on the part of the Congress in the matter of secularism.
In stark contrast to the political assessment made in the previous party congress, the CPI came up with a scathing critique of the Congress. The policy approach to the Congress will be the main topic of discussion at the party congress, where the outline of a broad opposition alliance against the BJP will be the main agenda. This stand of CPI is similar to that of CPM
According to the CPI, after liberalisation, the Congress has been taking stands that are ideologically inconsistent and unstable. After the Babri Masjid demolition incident when Narasimha Rao was Prime Minister, the secularism of the Congress has been questioned. Congress is still pursuing neo-liberal policies in the economic field. Any front that intends to become an alternative to RSS-BJP must be completely different from the RSS and BJP. The Congress should at least consider the Nehruvian model economic policy and socialist society as an alternative to BJP's friendly neoliberal policies. It should consider these issues ideologically and reach an agreement with the opposition parties.
The CPI's draft political resolution, which speaks optimistically about the strength of regional parties in many states, also points out that their right-wing leanings and conservatism are problematic. In matters of policy and governance, they lean more towards right-wing politics. Electoral setbacks to the Left have prompted regional parties to move to the right in search of gains. An increased and intensified presence of the left is needed to bring about a left-wing tilt in policy-making.
Soft on China
The draft political resolution says that only socialist countries like China, Cuba, Vietnam and Laos were able to fight the spread of the Covid pandemic and protect their citizens. It also alleged that the United States is trying to undermine the political and economic base of the Russian Federation by using the Ukraine issue.
