THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Lokayukta has ordered a probe on the corruption in Covid purchase. Buying the PPE kit for three times the price will be investigated. The inquiry was ordered after the Lokayukta conducted a preliminary inquiry. As part of it, a notice will be issued to many including former health minister K K Shailaja and KMCL general manager Dr Dileep. The notice has asked to reply in a month. The plea was filed by congress activist Veena S Nair.
The allegation is that during the beginning of Covid, there was corruption of crore in the purchase of things including PPE Kit, gloves and infrared thermometer. Evidences on it were exposed. Companies willing to provide these at a low price were avoided and bought it for a huge amount.
However, the chief minister rejected all the allegations in the assembly. An unusual action was needed to face the unusual situation. The chief minister explained in the assembly that showing it as corruption is not acceptable.
