NEW DELHI: The Central Election Commission election on Friday announced the assembly election date in Himachal Pradesh. The elections will be held in a single phase this time on November 12. Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar announced that the counting of votes will take place on December 8. The election notification will be issued on October 17. The election will be held as per Covid norms. The commission also released guidelines for holding a safe election. Action will be taken to increase the voting percentage.
Nomination papers can be submitted for Himachal elections from October 25. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be on the 27th. The paper can be withdrawn before the 29th of this month. The commission informed that steps will be taken to update the voter list four times a year from now on. The imposition of the Model Code of Conduct has been reduced from 70 days to 57 days.
There are a total of 68 seats in Himachal. The current major party status is BJP with 44 seats, Congress with 21 seats and CPM with one seat. Himachal Pradesh has a history of alternately voting the Congress and the BJP to power. There are a total of 55,07,261 voters in Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Election Commission has not announced the election dates in Gujarat.
