NEW DELHI: The government has tabled an affidavit in the Supreme Court in the gold smuggling case, avoiding political criticism against ED and severely criticizing Swapna Suresh. The state government has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court on a petition filed by the ED requesting that the trial of the gold smuggling case be shifted to Bengaluru.

In the affidavit, the government alleges that the investigation is to defame the government. The affidavit also states that there is external pressure and ulterior motive behind Swapna Suresh's allegations against the higher-ups in the gold smuggling case. Only the ED's procedures related to the case are being criticized. Dr V Venu, Additional Chief Secretary in-charge of the State Home Department submitted the affidavit on behalf of the State Government.

Swapna Suresh is now telling the Magistrate and the media about the things that were not disclosed even when the ED recorded her statement twelve times. A bench headed by Chief Justice UU Lalit, on Thursday, will consider the petition filed by the ED seeking transfer of the trial of the gold smuggling case to Bengaluru. The affidavit also states that the bench has made it clear that the petition will be decided on the same day.
