PATHANAMTHITTA: The police team probing the Elanthoor double human sacrifice case conducted a search at the house of accused Bhagwal Singh using two dogs named Maya and Murphy. They belong to the Belgian Malinois breed which has the ability to find bodies buried up to 40 feet underground. There are 36 dogs of the Belgian Malinois breed in the police dog squad.
After getting out of the dog squad's van, the dogs ran into a compound near Bhagwal Singh's healing centre. The police marked the spots where the dogs sniffed for a long time.
Maya and Murphy joined the dog squad in March 2020. They underwent training at Thrissur Police academy. Both of them received expert training to find dead bodies under the ground. It was Maya who discovered eight dead bodies from the landslide-hit area in Pettimudi. Maya and Murphy together discovered 4 dead bodies in the landslide-hit region in Kokkayar. P Prabhat and Boney Babu are trainers of Maya. Murphy is trained by George Manuel and Nikhil Krishna.
