THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has agreed for a discussion with social activist Daya Bai,who was on a hunger strike seeking justice for the victims of Endosulfan. Chief Minister’s intervention has paved way for a discussion. It has been two weeks since the strike began and the government has paid attention only now. The discussion will be held at 12 pm.

Daya Bai says that she is expecting a positive approach from the government. She also told the media that she would end the strike only if the government accepts all the demands.

Ambalathara Kunhikrishnan, chairman of the strike committee, told the media that the government's intervention is seen as a positive stance. The protest committee has put forward four demands that includes AIIMS be set up in Kasargod, specialized treatment facilities should be provided in hospitals, day care centres should be built for the mentally challenged and bedridden patients, and a medical camp should be set up immediately to find Endosulfan victims.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan had stated the other day that if the government is not ready to settle the strike, then the UDF will take over. ‘Daya Bai has raised issues that can be resolved by the government. She will end the strike if the Health minister gives an assurance. The Minister should immediately intervene in the issue after reaching Kerala,’ said Satheeshan. The district congress committee also held a protest march in solidarity with the strike.
