THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid the Eldhose Kunnappilly controversy, KPCC president K Sudhakaran's Ramayana interpretation, apology and Congress leaders scrambling to respond, the polls for the post of party president will be today at Indira Bhavan.
Kerala has 310 voters including one KPCC member from 280 block committees, five representatives from five newly formed block committees, 15 parliamentary party members and 10 former KPCC presidents.
KPCC president K Sudhakaran, who initially showed mild sympathy for Tharoor, eventually changed his stance and took the path of national leadership. Since the senior leader Ramesh Chennithala was not in charge organizationally, he started campaigning for Mallikarjun Kharge in other states. Most of the senior leaders in Kerala have taken a stand based on the directives of the national leadership.
However, leaders like Kozhikode MP MK Raghavan, senior leader Thampanoor Ravi and former MLA KS Sabarinath are in favour of Tharoor. Tharoor's supporters say that if he gets 100 votes, it will be a big recognition of their position. But they are also not very optimistic about how many votes they will get. Some leaders secretly say the votes will be in the range of 50.
All the preparations for the polls have been completed in KPCC. Election in-charge Pradesh Returning Officer G Parameshwara and Assistant Returning Officer VK Arivazhakan are supervising the voting.
