THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After two decades, the Congress presidential polls have started. Voting which started at 10 am will continue till 4 pm. Polling will be held at PCC headquarters including Thiruvananthapuram and AICC headquarters in Delhi. The votes will be counted on Wednesday.

Congress presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor said that he is confident of winning the polls. Everything that can be done has been done. Whatever the outcome be, a joint working will continue. Tharoor said that his fight is not for personal gain but for the party and the country. Tharoor voted in Thiruvananthapuram and his opponent Mallikarjun Kharge in Bengaluru.


‘Priyanka Gandhi sent a message saying this polls have benefited the congress party. Talked to Kharge on phone. He said that he has respect and that there will be collective participation for the success of the party. The stand of the Gandhi family seems correct. There is disagreement with the stand of other leaders.

Meantime, Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and many others registered their votes at the AICC headquarters.

"Both are Congressmen, both are capable. I will vote according to my conscience', Padmaja Venugopal said after casting her vote. She said that she is happy and proud to vote in the polls held in a democratic manner.
