VIJAYAWADA: The CPI party congress has agreed to accept the 75-year age limit for the members of the national and state councils. The party program commission has proposed to amend the party constitution. The amendments against the implementation of the age limit were rejected by delegates through voting. 65-year age limit for district secretaries will not be included in the party constitution. But what has already been implemented in the states as a guideline will continue.
The delegates divided into four commissions and discussed the draft political resolution, political analysis report and organizational report presented at the party congress, as well as the party program and constitution. DB Binu from Kerala came out against implementing the 75-year age limit. The proposal brought by KE Ismail was voted down. Kanam Rajendran and K Prakash Babu from Kerala led the constitution commission discussion. In the discussion of the draft political resolution, it was agreed to give emphasis to the broad unity of the secular and democratic parties and there is no need to address Congress by name. Economic reservation also became a hot topic of discussion during the party congress. Finally, it was decided that the new National Council should take the final decision on the matter.
