THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two polling booths were arranged at the Indira Bhavan for Congress leaders to vote in the high-voltage election to the party’s top post. 287 Congress leaders voted at the two polling booths, out of the total 310 members in Kerala who are eligible to vote.
Two voters who are participating in the Bharat Jodo Yathra and another five voters who have election duties voted from outside the state. In total 294 votes were cast from the Kerala side. The polling percentage from Kerala is 94.83%.
In the list of eligible members who can vote in the election, three voters had died, nine voters could not vote because of health issues, and two voters are currently abroad. Eldhose Kunnappilly had one vote but did not appear for the voting as he is on the run in the molestation case.
The election agents for Mallikarjun Kharge were VS Shivakumar, AA Shukoor, VK Srikandan, and Dean Kuriakkose. Activists had reached the office early morning with posters and banners of the two leaders in a bid to canvas more votes for their respective leaders.
The atmosphere at Indira Bhavan yesterday was celebratory and in festive mode, without any bickering, blame game, groupism, or enmity. Shashi Tharoor reached the office at 10.45 am.
