THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF is taking over the strike staged by social activist Daya Bai seeking justice for the victims of Endosulfan. The UDF leaders called on Daya Bai, who is on hunger strike, at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. After visiting her, opposition leader V D Satheesan told media that the UDF has decided to give full support to the strike.
The opposition leader asked how could the government ignore the strike staged by the 82-year old in front of the secretariat in the scorching sun and rain. This is a cruel neglect towards the endosulfan victims and Daya Bai. There is no hindrance for the government to accept the reasonable demands raised by Daya Bai. The opposition leader also alleged that there was a big lapse from the side of the ministers in the matter.
The government is blamed for not functioning smoothly. The ministers visited Daya Bai after 16 days of the strike. The issue could have been solved very easily. The government will not incur any huge financial burden in this regard. It is the government's responsibility to do all this. The UDF requests the chief minister to intervene and solve the issue. The opposition leader said that he will discuss the matter with the chief minister and will inform him about the lapses from their side.
