KOZHIKODE: Heavy rainfall has triggered a landslide in Thamarassery pass on Tuesday. The landslide occurred near the Gate of Wayanad in Lakkidi this afternoon. Large rocks and trees were swept to the road. A major accident was avoided as there were no vehicles on the road.

The traffic on the pass was completely disrupted following the landslide. The traffic was later restored after removing stones and soil from the national highway using JCB. Officials have warned people passing through the pass to be cautious as there is a possibility of landslides.

Meanwhile, heavy rain is continuing in the state. Many low-lying areas were inundated as the rains continued unabated. Edamalayar has received the highest rainfall in Kerala. The cyclonic circulation formed in the Bay of Bengal will turn into a low-pressure region in 48 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that rains will continue as the low pressure will strengthen. An orange alert has been declared in 10 districts due to heavy rains. The orange alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad.
