THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Governor has rejected Higher Education Minister, R Bindu’s recommendation on giving the responsibility of Kerala University VC to one of the Vice Chancellors of MG University or Sanskrit University. The current VC of Kerala University, Dr. VP Mahadevan Pillai is due to retire on the 24th of this month.
The Minister submitted the recommendation to the Governor in her capacity as the Pro Vice Chancellor of the Universities. The recommendation follows after the Governor instructed to give a list of senior professors in Kerala, Calicut, MG, and CUSAT universities who have completed ten years of service.
The Governor has the power to hand over the temporary responsibility of the Vice Chancellor of every university except the Agriculture University. In the case of the Agriculture University, the Governor must discuss with the Pro-Chancellor, the Agriculture Minister before taking a decision.
The Governor is not in terms with the VCs of MG University and Sanskrit University. The MG University VC did not respond when the Governor demanded action against placing posters all over the University campus by student organizations.
The Governor is of the opinion that he approved the appointment of the Vice Chancellor of the Sanskrit University after pressure from the Chief Minister.
The VCs have sent the list of senior professors to the Raj Bhavan as ordered by the Governor. There is a possibility that the Governor might hand over the responsibility of Kerala University VC to one of the senior professors. Ten professors have completed 10 years of service at Kerala University.
The time of retirement of MG University VC is also nearing.
