NEW DELHI: Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday reacted after the results of the Congress National President Election came out.

Following his victory, Kharge reacted by strongly criticizing the central government. "After independence, the Congress strengthened the country's democracy. Congress tried to strengthen democracy by conducting nationwide elections. Today all institutions are being destroyed. Democracy is in danger.' Kharge said. Kharge said that he met Shashi Tharoor and discussed how the party should be taken forward.

Thanking Sonia Gandhi and those who supported him, Kharge said that his new post was a sacrifice of Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor responded that Kharge's victory was a victory for the Congress party. He congratulated Kharge in person. Tharoor said that he did not contest as a rebel and was thankful for the support he got in the party. He clarified that he did not contest for any posts, but for the future of the party and the country.
