THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: PWD Minister Mohammed Riyas has rebuked the female officer who was in-charge of road construction for the poor condition of roads during inspection. In the Chief engineer’s report, the condition of road near Pathanapuram market was mentioned as ‘perfect’ and ‘work completed’. But the road has potholes and tarring has not been completed. The minister found this during inspection and reprimanded the chief engineer as well the female officer. He also told them to find another job if they can’t do this.
An ultimatum was also given that the potholes should be covered and tarred before night. He also reminded them of the consequences for not following the instructions. The Minister's inspection was on the roads that were proposed to be repaired ahead of the Sabarimala season. It was even difficult for pedestrians to walk on the road, which triggered such response from the minister.
The situation of Konni Road (30 km) was also similar. He also directed to complete the remaining 16 km bituminous concrete and tarring work on the KSTP road before 23rd. He has also suggested to complete the construction of Elamanoor-Kalanjoorpadam road before December 31. The Minister traveled through the roads of Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts to assess the progress of the works before the review meeting on Thursday in Pathanamthitta.
On Thurday, the minister will conduct inspection in Erumely, Kanjirapalli, Chengannur, Thiruvalla, Adoor and Aranmula. He will also inaugurate roads in Konni, Ranni and Chengannur constituencies and the renovated Erumeli Rest House.
