MUMBAI: Arun Dhumal, who is stepping down as treasurer, has said that BCCI, one of the richest sports organizations in the world, has seen its income jump three times in the last three years. Arun, who is the new IPL chairman, announced this at the BCCI's annual general meeting on Tuesday.
Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian national cricket team captain, was the BCCI president during this period.
“We are handing over an organisation that sits over a treasury of Rs 9629 crores of funds, which is roughly thrice of what we got at the time of our taking over from CoA. This is remarkable in the light of the fact that the disbursement to the state associations has seen a jump of nearly 5 times; from Rs 680 crores during the CoA tenure to Rs 3295 crores now to the state associations,” Dhumal said in a note.
Arun Dhuman revealed that the e-auction of IPL's broadcast and digital rights for the period 2023-2027 has also contributed to the revenue increase. Moreover, the auction of two new IPL teams, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, also contributed to the revenue growth. 12,715 crores was spent on bidding by the two teams. He said that it was also good that BCCI was able to convince the Income Tax Tribunal in Mumbai that it was entitled to tax benefits under the Income Tax Act.
