PALAKKAD: Authorities have taken action against the police officer who allegedly beat two youngsters who were taking their mother, a heart patient, to the hospital. An order has been issued transferring accused Walayar CI Ranjith Kumar. The incident took place last Tuesday. Brothers Hriday Swamy and John Albert were beaten up by the police while taking their mother to Palakkad district hospital for treatment.
While traveling to the hospital, the brothers stopped the car on the side of the road. Upon noticing this, the police team led by Walayar CI asked them to move the car. After this, when the police jeep moved forward, it collided with the car. When Hriday Swamy questioned this, the CI got out of the car and beat him up. The police also attacked John Albert who tried to prevent the CI from beating his brother. In their complaint to the Chief Minister and the SP, the complainants alleged that the police also deleted the footage of the incident recorded on the mobile phone.
After getting beaten by the police, the siblings went to the district hospital with their mother. They later lodged a complaint after seeking treatment at a private hospital. The official explanation of the Walayar police is that Hriday Swamy, who was drunk, shouted at the police officers and assaulted them.
