KOLLAM: It became clear that the police had brutally beaten up a soldier and his brother at Kilikollur station. The Human Rights Commission, which initiated a suo moto case, directed the Commissioner to submit a report within 15 days.

The incident happened on October 25. A local policeman of the station had called Vignesh to bail an accused. However, Vignesh refused to bail when he came to know that it was a drug case. So, an argument broke out between Vignesh and the police officer. In the meantime, Vishnu reached there after hearing that his brother had gone to the station. An argument ensued when policeman Prakash Chandran, who came from the station, stopped Vishnu's bike and tried to snatch the key. The police officers then took both of them inside the station and brutally tortured them. ASI Prakash Chandran got injured above the eye when Vishnu raised his hand in defence.

The police explained the incident to the media by hiding the facts. After getting released on bail, the brothers lodged a complaint with the Commissioner. The subsequent investigation by the Special Branch and the Crime Branch found the police to be guilty. They had examined various pieces of evidence including, the camera footage from the station.
