Kollam: Are there criminals still thriving within Kerala police force? Are they still subjecting even innocent persons picked up by them to brutal third degree custodial torture? Will they have no qualms in ruining the life of innocents just to settle some personal scores with them? Will nothing scare them or deter them from acting like terrorists against their preys? Will this happen even in these times when almost anything gets recorded on mobile phones or CCTV cameras? Will this happen in a department headed by none other than the chief minister and finally will this happen in 100 pc literate Kerala boasted as God’s Own Country?
These questions will pop up in our mind when we come to know about this one of the most brutal custodial torture incidents reported from Kerala’s Kollam district. The shocking details of the incident that happened Kilikollur police station in August came to light only when one of the victims himself showed the guts to speak out to the media a few days ago. There are two victims. They are brothers. The fact that the elder brother is a jawan and the younger one is a person who has passed the PSC’s SI test and awaits physical test for SI selection adds credibility to his version of story. He has also shown some video clippings and photographs to support their version of police brutality.
An internal probe on the alleged custodial torture by police based on the complaint filed by the brothers after coming out of jail showed that the two brothers were falsely accused by some officers and were subjected to third-grade treatment.
Kilikollur police station principal SI Aneesh and two civil police officers were transferred based on the findings.
The brothers 30 yr old Vishnu and 25 yr old Vignesh had complained that the police physically tortured them after accusing them of attacking the officers at the station. But the Kilikollur police had maintained that the brothers, who arrived to bail out a drug peddling accused, attacked the officers inside the station.
In a heart-breaking revelation made by younger brother Vignesh, he detailed on what happened on that day that is on August 25
