THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Applications are not being accepted for the past three months to the Vatsalya Nidhi Insurance for the welfare of scheduled caste girls. The welfare program was begun by the Scheduled Caste Development Department and the LIC.
The Vatsalya Nidhi was begun in 2017. The beneficiary can make sure that the girl will have full coverage for her health and studies. 14,000 became policyholders. However, the portal for registration is blocked now.
The educational benefits and insurance cover if parent dies were given through the Central Government projects such as Jeevan Jyothi Bheema Yojana, Shiksha Sahayog Yojana, and Suraksha Bheema Yojana. However, the Central Government withdrew the Shiksha Sahayog Yojana. The payment of Jeevan Jyothi Bheema Yojana and Suraksha Bheema Yojana distribution is now being done through banks. This led to the giving away of LIC.
Kerala Kaumudi had reported earlier that the application is low due to low advertisement. Now the registration itself has stopped.
The project aimed at the welfare of scheduled caste girls who are financially poor.
