KANNUR: More information have been surfaced in the murder of the 23-year-old woman in Panoor. The police said the knife used by accused Shyamjith to slit her throat was made by himself. The police also said that he started making the knife three days ago.
The knife was sharp on both sides of the edge. Only hammer and an iron made weapon were bought from outside. While collecting evidence Sunday morning, weapons including the knife were found in the bag dumped in a pond in Manantheri. A hammer, knife, screw driver, mask used while committing the murder, shirt, jeans, gloves, bottle of water, shoes, another lethal weapon for inflicting injuries and chilli powder were recovered from his bag. Shyamjith told the police that he did not use the chilli powder. He reached home after the murder, took a shower and then put the clothes he wore at the time of the murder in a bag and dumped it in the pool. He kept a stone on top of the bag.
He first hit her with a hammer and then slit her throat. This was mentioned in his confessional statement to the police. Then he injured her all over her body with the knife he had in his hand. There were 18 deep cut injuries on her body. The inquest report said hack injuries were there on her hands, neck and legs. The incident that shook the country took place Sunday morning at 11 am.
