DEHRADUN: The decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Uttarakhand, surprised the security staff. The Prime Minister shared his desire to spend the night in the temporary shed where the staff of Border Roads Organization (BRO) stay at an altitude of 11,300 feet. He did not agree to bring any special food here. Modi ate khichdi cooked by a labourer working for BRO. The food was prepared using the ration items they had in the kitchen.
The officer of the BRO with the rank of assistant executive officer said that they were stunned when told that the Prime Minister would be visiting their DET and stay there for a night. The DET had only basic facilities. The officials had only a few hours to arrange everything. After reaching here, Modi first interacted with the road construction workers and then asked one of them to cook khichdi for dinner.
No special items were brought to cook for the Prime Minister. He ate the same ration they had in the kitchen. A Border Roads Organization employee said that although the administration had made arrangements in Badrinath, the Prime Minister and his personal staff stayed with the workers. The temporary cook made khichdi, poha, meetha karela and jhagore kheer for the Prime Minister.
There was only a small electric heater to heat the room warm where the Prime Minister stayed in the sub-zero temperatures at night. He left after saying that he was very happy to stay with the staff. He also did not forget to praise the cooking and service of Devendra, Rajesh, Anitesh Kumar and Suresh Saini.
Modi arrived here after visiting Kedarnath and Badrinath temples in Uttarakhand. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the expansion of two strategic roads in Uttarakhand on Saturday. The construction of these is expected to be completed by March 2026.
