THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pointing Supreme Court order sacking the vice chancellor of the technical university, the time given by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan seeking the resignation of vice chancellors of all nine universities of the state will end at 11.30 am Monday. In the meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will meet the media at 10.30 am today to clarify the government's stand on the matter.

None of the VCs have presently informed their willingness to resign. The directive of the government said they need not resign. The vice chancellors have sought legal advice. In this situation, there is anxiety as to what would be the decision of the governor. Raj Bhavan sources said that while the criteria for sacking VCs remain, the Governor will proceed with the sacking process interpreting the Supreme Court order.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is addressing the press at a time when the dispute between the governor and the government continues to rage. The chief minister has called a press meet just before the governor starts the process of ousting the vice chancellors after 11.30. The chief minister is likely to reply to the Governor and will also explain government’s stand. The chief minister will also face questions on the continuous allegations against the police in the state.
