THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said that there is no disagreement within the UDF over the Governor’s action demanding the resignation of VCs of eleven universities in the state. Chennithala said that the Chief Minister should not dream that there will be a difference of opinion in the UDF in this regard. “The Governor demanded the resignation of the VCs in the context of the Supreme Court verdict. UDF also considers selection of VCs in the state universities as political appointments,” said Chennithala.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan, who issued a press release last day and responded to the media, also welcomed the Governor's action. He said that the government appointed those who are favorable to it as Vice Chancellors to facilitate back-door appointments to the universities. This was pointed out many times by the opposition. However, during that time the Governor supported the government’s illegal appointments. He added that the Governor’s decision to rectify his mistakes with this move is welcome.

But senior Congress leader KC Venugopal criticized that the Governor’s demand for the resignation of VCs has violated all boundaries of democracy. He stated in the press release that it should be opposed. Muslim League leader and former education minister ET Muhammad Basheer also criticized the Governor's action. “As an ex-Education minister, I have been able to understand the appointment and working of Governors closely. Governor usually does not interfere in the activities of the universities. He may have disagreement with the government. Universities do not have to accept everything the government says. But the current action of the Governor cannot be justified in any way,” said Basheer. Later, the League clarified through a press release that the action of the governor has crossed all limits and there was a clear political motive behind it.

The Chief Minister mentioned the difference of opinion in the opposition during the press conference today. “This is a move not only against the government but against the entire state. League leaders realized the danger. That is why they are against the Governor's action. But the Congress leaders were not like that, the opposition leader is supporting the BJP's strategy”, said CM.
