KOCHI: The High Court has issued order clarifying that the Vice Chancellor can continue for the time being. Justice Devan Ramachandran said in the order that the VC can continue until the chancellor issues a final order. The court also observed that it was not right from the Governor’s part to send a letter asking for resignation. The court also stated that action taken against the Vice chancellors must be legal.

The court earlier asked whether the appointments of VCs were not prima facie illegal. “The Supreme Court has cancelled the appointment of Technical University VC. If that order is applicable, then the Governor who allowed the VCs to continue on their post till 24th is an honorable person”, said the court. “How is it right to argue that it can go on until someone doesn't question it?” asked HC. The court also asked why the chancellor can’t take action as he is the appointing authority.

The VCs filed a petition seeking to be allowed to continue in their post. The petition said the Governor's notice was not legal and did not follow the procedures.
