DGP Anil Kant has given directions to further strengthen the functioning of police stations in the state. The DGP gave the new directions in an online meeting of District Police Chiefs, Range DIGs and Zone IGs.

The DGP directed that the District Special Branch should be strengthened so that accurate and comprehensive information about the incidents taking place under the jurisdiction of various police stations is available to the District Police Chiefs as quickly as possible. Sub-Divisional Police Officers should accurately assess the day-to-day operations of police stations. Officers at police stations should complete legal proceedings when persons are brought to the stations in connection with cases and crimes. Sub-Divisional Police Officers and Station House Officers will be responsible for ensuring that the medical examination is carried out correctly. The DGP demanded that all the procedures specified in the Kerala Police Act should be followed in such cases.

Police officers shouldn't use force unless it is required by law, the state police head added. He continued by saying that it ought to be legal if using force is necessary in the course of official duty. He also directed District police chiefs to visit all police stations at regular intervals.
