KOCHI: A policeman who stole gold from his friend’s house has been suspended from service. The cop suspended is Amal Dev (35), civil police officer of A R Camp. He stole gold of eight sovereigns from his friend’s house. The police had arrested him in the case earlier.
The theft had taken place at Natesan’s house on October 13. Natesan’s son Nibin was Amal’s close friend. He was a regular visitor to their house. He stole the gold of Nibin’s wife.
Amal had pledged the gold for Rs 43000 at a financial firm in Njarakkal and for Rs 79,000 at a firm in Ernakulam Banerjee Road. He sold the rest of the gold to Rajan, owner of Geetha Stores in Njarakkal for Rs 1.21 lakh. He has a financial liability of Rs 40 lakh after playing online rummy.
