KOZHIKODE: A report has claimed that Shigella bacterial infection has been confirmed again in Kozhikode. Two children of Karassery Panchayat have been diagnosed with the infection. Some of the family members of the infected children are also showing symptoms, prompting the health department to intensify preventive measures in the area.
Shigella cases have been confirmed in the 1st and 18th wards of Karassery panchayat. Boys aged six and ten are infected. The ten-year-old boy has been admitted to the hospital. As part of preventive measures, a special squad has started carrying out inspections at restaurants, meat shops, and fish markets in the panchayat. Awareness programs will also be organized in all the wards.
The Shigella bacteria enter the body mainly through contaminated water. The main symptoms of this disease are high fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting.
