CHENNAI: The report of the inquiry committee appointed by the Tamil Nadu government to probe whether star couple Nayanthara-Vignesh Shivan violated surrogacy laws said that the private hospital that performed artificial insemination have committed serious lapses.

The report points out that the hospital hasn't kept any records of the surrogacy. "Why should the ART centre of the hospital not be shut down for not retaining the documents in the surrogate mother case?", the committee's report points out. There are also reports that the surrogate is not a relative of Nayanthara. She is married and have a child. Also, the hospital hasn't kept any information about the health of the surrogate woman.

Meanwhile, the committee's report states that Nayanthara and Vignesh have not violated any surrogacy laws. According to the report, Nayanthara and Vignesh Sivan were legally married on March 11, 2016 and followed all the procedures and guidelines for surrogacy. Couples have followed the waiting period for surrogacy. The inquiry committee also stated that all the documents have been submitted by the couple.

Vignesh Shivan announced the birth of twins through social media on October 9, which was followed by controversies over surrogacy. Surrogacy is allowed in the country only after five years of marriage. The Tamil Nadu government announced an investigation following the birth of Nayanthara-Vignesh's babies.

However, the star couple said in an affidavit submitted to the Tamil Nadu Health Department that the marriage was registered six years ago and the process of surrogacy was started last December. Both have also submitted the documents of marriage registration.
