LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has been sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 in hate speech case. The sentence was pronounced by UP Rampur court in a hate speech case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2019.
The court has allowed one week to file an appeal in the High Court. The court has also granted bail to him till then. Meanwhile, there is a possibility that Azam Khan might loss his MLA post. Azam Khan, who was in jail in the forgery case, was released after the Supreme Court granted bail earlier this year.
Azam Khan was booked in April 2019 for making hateful remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and then Rampur District Magistrate Aunjaneya Kumar Singh.
