THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left leadership has assessed that Governor Arif Muhammad Khan's move to withdraw the 'pleasure' in Finance Minister KN Balagopal is to put pressure on the government. The Front has decided to proceed cautiously in the matter.
The LDF will fight against the Governo by strengthening the political propaganda that the RSS agenda to implement saffronisation in universities is behind the Governor's unusual moves. Meanwhile, there are worries at the head of government over the governance crisis created by the governor-government war. Although the Chief Minister has declined the Governor's demand to sack the Finance Minister, Raj Bhavan's strategy is to create a situation where an outsider approaches the court citing the allegations in the letter.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court had ruled in favour of a minister in a case where the governor had previously withdrawn his pleasure in the minister. It also gives hope to the government that various judgments, including the one by the Supreme Court Constitution Bench in the Shamsher Singh case, have underlined that the governors should act according to the advisory instructions of the cabinet. However, if the case goes to court, Raj Bhavan could put the government in a crisis by creating pressure of litigations for at least a few months. Therefore, the Left Front has come to an understanding that the ministers should not make further provocations.
While describing his first-hand experience when he visited Banaras Hindu University, the finance minister said that it would be difficult for those coming from such a place to understand the universities in Kerala. However, the governor has accused the minister of violating the oath by degrading Uttar Pradesh and breaking national unity. The Left leadership suspects that the Governor is aiming to tarnish the reputation of the Kerala government at the national level through his move.
The left centers are raising the question of whether the Governor did not find Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement comparing Kerala to Somalia and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's statement that UP would become Kerala if he voted against the BJP as seditious remarks. The Left leaders are also alleging that the Governor, who often visits Delhi, is working according to a precise script.
