THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The governor has rejected the government's recommendation to hand over the charge of VC of the Technical University to Ishita Roy, Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, in view of the dismissal of Dr. MS Rajasree by the Supreme Court after finding irregularities in the appointment. The governor rejected the recommendation on the grounds that Ishita Roy was performing heavy duties such as Commissioner of Agricultural Production, VC of Agricultural University and Principal Secretary of Higher Education. He also gave strict instructions to hand over the list of senior professors of engineering colleges on Monday itself. He is likely to hand over the charge of VC to any of the professors from CET and Barton Hill College of Engineering.
The Higher Education Principal Secretary had earlier recommended to the governor that Digital University VC Saji Gopinath should be given the charge in place of Rajasree. However, the governor rejected this recommendation. He has issued a show-cause notice to both Rajasree Saji Gopinath. They need to come up with a reply by November 3. The governor will take action after that. Rajasree has not come to the university since the Supreme Court order. PVC Dr. Ayub, who was appointed on a co-terminus basis, will also be sacked along with Rajasree.
