THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two women police officers were suspended after Greeshma, who was arrested for murdering her lover Sharon Raj by mixing insecticide in a concoction, attempted suicide by drinking cleaning lotion in the toilet of Nedumangad police station while in custody. After giving primary treatment at Nedumangad Government Hospital, Greeshma was shifted to Medical College Hospital ICU for expert care. Greeshma tried to commit suicide at seven in the morning on Monday.
The crime branch team reached the hospital and registered her arrest after her condition improved. She has been charged with murder (IPC 302). The police also registered a case of attempted suicide against her. Neyyatrinkara Chief Judicial Magistrate reached the hospital and remanded her. Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate came to the hospital and recorded her statement in the suicide attempt case.
Rural SP D Shilpa suspended Gayatri and Suma of Nedumangad station for the lapse in providing security to the accused. Four women police officers were assigned to look after Greeshma. When she said that she wanted to go to the toilet, the policewomen took her to another toilet without asking her to use the facility in the lock-up. They did not check the toilet before she entered the toilet. They even allowed her to lock the door from the inside. The Rural SP took the action based on the report of Nedumangad DYSP and the Special Branch.
