THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Civil police officer Ramya of Chevayoor police station has been honoured by state police chief Anil Kant for breastfeeding a 12-days-old baby who was separated from mother over family issues. The police chief said that this act of compassion in treating the famished infant had enhanced the reputation of the police force. Ramya was also given a commendation certificate by the DGP.
High Court judge Justice Devan Ramachandran had written a letter to the police chief appreciating Ramya. DGP also presented a certificate handed over by Justice Devan Ramachandran. Justice Devan Ramachandran had noted in the certificate that this officer is the best face of the police.
Last Saturday morning, a 22-year-old woman came to Chevayoor station with a complaint that her baby was missing. The father took the baby away from the mother due to a family dispute. After concluding that the father had gone to work in Bengaluru with the baby, information was given at stations in the Wayanad border. Sultan Bathery police found the father and the babytraveling in the car during the vehicle inspection at the state border.
The police rushed the nbaby to the hospital, who was tired because of lack of breast milk. When the baby's sugar level became low, Ramya, who came from Chevayoor station to take the baby back, informed the doctor that she was a lactating mother. Then she fed the baby and saved his life. Then the baby was handed over to the mother.
Ramya, who joined the service four years ago, hails from Chingapuram, Kozhikode. She completed her training in the second batch of women's battalion and was working in the fourth armed battalion. She got posted in Chevayoor station after maternity leave. She has two children aged four and one. Husband Ashwanth Vishwan is a teacher at LP school in Malappuram.
