THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The pension age in public sector institutions of the state has been unified to 60. The finance department issued an order in this regard. The government’s action is after accepting the report of various committees. Presently various institutions have different pension ages. This order will not be applicable to those retired. The new order is not applicable to KSEB, KSRTC and Water Authority. A special committee has been formed to study the pension age in these places.
The Finance Department issued an order on October 29 increasing the pension age to 60. Therefore, the increase is applicable to those who are due to retire from that date.
With this, there is a possibility of government employees to demand raising their pension age. Youth organizations will no doubt come forward with protests as the raising of the pension age will pose a challenge to new job opportunities.
