THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even in the wake of criticism from the High Court, the Kerala University Senate meeting to be held tomorrow may not select the representative to the search committee for VC appointment. On August 20, the Senate had passed a resolution declaring that the two-member search committee constituted by the governor without a senate representative was illegal and should be withdrawn. There will be only one agenda in the Senate tomorrow, whether to stick to this resolution or to withdraw it.

If the resolution against the governor is withdrawn in the Senate tomorrow, the next meeting can be called with 10 days’ notice. In that meeting, the representative can be selected and informed to the Governor. Normally, decisions taken by the Senate can be reviewed only after 12 months. But considering the application signed by 63 members, the senate has been called tomorrow for re-examination. As there is a move by UDF members in the Senate to appoint former Sanskrit University VC MC Dileep Kumar as a representative to the search committee, the Left members in the Senate are cautious about their moves. The decisions of Dr Mohan Kunnummal, VC of KUHS, will also be important.

The Supreme Court dismissed the Technical University VC on the grounds that a single name was given instead of the search committee panel for the appointment. 11 VCs face expulsion for the same reason. The Raj Bhavan has informed that the rumour that the salaries of 8 VCs who were given show cause notices would be taken back is fake.
