THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The discharge of accused Greeshma, who is undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital after trying to commit suicide by drinking Lysol while in police custody in the Sharon murder case, is getting delayed. The doctors found that her throat and oesophagus suffered burns as she consumed Lysol, a toilet cleaner. As she has difficulty in eating food and drinking water, she requires glucose and medication. Hence, the doctors were not ready to discharge Greeshma yesterday. Greeshma is guarded by women policemen in the ICU. The police are providing tight security as she attempted suicide while in custody.
Only after being discharged can Greeshma be taken into judicial custody and taken to her home to finish gathering evidence and conducting thorough questioning. Greeshma's mother and uncle, who were arrested by the police for helping Greeshma get away with the case by destroying the evidence, were remanded the other day. The investigation team is planning to take the uncle and mother into custody again and add more charges against them if they get new evidence after taking Greeshma into custody and interrogating her.
Crime Branch seeks legal advice
Since the crime took place at Ramavarman Chira in Tamil Nadu, the crime branch team sought legal advice regarding the transfer of the proceedings, including the further investigation of the case and submission of the charge sheet, to the Tamil Nadu Police. The crime branch is trying to complete the proceedings quickly and hand over the case to the Tamil Nadu Police as all matters, including the planning and poisoning, took place at Greeshma's house in Tamil Nadu. It is believed that if the state police try to complete the investigation and file a charge sheet in the incident that took place outside their jurisdiction, it will backfire at the trial stage of the case.
