THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of widespread rain in the state on Thursday. There will be thundershowers as part of the northeast monsoon. A yellow alert has been issued in nine districts except for Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The cyclonic circulation over the Tamil Nadu coast will also cause rain. The state will receive widespread rain in the next few days.

Many districts including Kozhikode received heavy rain on Wednesday. Hilly areas in Kozhikode received heavy rain yesterday. There was widespread damage due to lightning.

The two days of heavy rains in Tamil Nadu have eased a bit. But there is still a rain warning. Schools in seven districts will remain closed on Thursday. Waterlogging in many areas around the city of Chennai has not fully receded. Steps are in progress to pump out the water. It is reported that two people died in the flood. One person died of electrocution and a woman died after a wall collapsed on her.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin held a virtual meeting of top officials in connection with the rains. Strict instructions were given to continue the rescue operations. 15 teams of National Disaster Response Force have been kept ready to deal with any emergency situation.
