santhosh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram Magistrate's Court will today consider the police's petition to take custody of Santhosh, of Padmanabhavilasam house in Malayinkeezhu, the person accused of breaking into a house in Kuravankonam and sexually assaulting a female doctor who had come for a morning walk at the museum. He was arrested by the Peroorkada police in connection with the Kuravankonam case and remanded on Wednesday. The museum police will arrest him after taking him into custody. After this, he will be taken to the museum premises for evidence collection. The woman doctor identified the suspect yesterday. The accused was also brought to the house in Kuravankonam yesterday for evidence collection.

For the past 10 years, he has been a driver for the agency that provides vehicles on contract for the Secretariat. Santhosh came as the driver of Minister Roshi Augustine's private secretary Gopakumaran Nair. He has been dismissed from his job following the latest developments.

The incident happened on the morning of October 26. After parking the car with the board "Government of Kerala" in the Kowdiar area, he reached the house in Kuravankonam to break in and commit theft. After that, he came to the museum premises at 4.45 am and assaulted the female doctor.

There was criticism regarding the museum police's lapse in probe despite the female doctor tipping off the suspect. The accused, who escaped in a car, was caught last day after inspecting the CCTV footage. Meanwhile, he had shaved his head to avoid getting caught.

The police said that he is an accused in a fighting case at Malayinkeezhu station. It is suspected that he is the same person who entered a house in the Peroorkada station area last December and tried to attack a girl. During the evidence collection, the accused told the media that the case is fabricated and he had not committed the crime. At the same time, there has been widespread criticism against the misuse of the state car.
