THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As per the Indian Meteorological Department's warning, Kerala is likely to get heavy showers from today till November 7. Rain warning has been issued in 10 districts. A yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts. The rains are due to the northeast monsoon and the presence of cyclonic circulation over Tamil Nadu and neighbouring areas.
As there is a possibility of isolated heavy thundershowers in the hilly areas, people should keep an orange alert-like vigil in the hilly areas which have received heavy rains in the past few days. The disaster management authority warned the authorities and the public to take precautions as there is a possibility of waterlogging and minor flooding in urban and low-lying areas. Landslides, flash floods and floods are possible due to heavy rainfall.
KSEB, irrigation and KWA departments should be directed to ensure adherence to rule curves of dams and to make early preparations in small dams. The Indian Meteorological Department also suggests that special monitoring should be done regarding the rising water level in the rivers.
