THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Education department will issue a show cause notice to the aided school teachers who participated in the Vizhinjam anti-port protest. The action is based on the report given by the police. The police had reached the schools in the district under the Latin Archdiocese seeking the names of the teachers who attended the strike. The details were received from some schools. These names have been handed over to the Education department. The reason for the action is that they accept the government salary and then protest against the government.
Vizhinjam police has already sent a warning letter to about 25 teachers. The police have collected visuals of teachers arriving on school buses to protest. Attendance books of teachers are also being inspected from schools to confirm their participation in the strike. Notice will be sent to more teachers in second phase. Their names are being collected. Some other government employees have also participated in the strike. The police informed that notice will also be sent to them.
The Ports Department is worried that the assurance given to the Adani Group that the port construction would be ready to resume by the end of October could not be fulfilled even by the first week of November. The discussions held by Minister Ahammad Devarkovil with the protest committee were also not successful. It is reported that there may be severe measures from the government in the coming days.
