THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition parties thronged the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation demanding the resignation of Mayor Arya Rajendran over the letter controversy. Alleging that the Mayor had violated the oath, the Youth Congress activists barged into the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office and had a push and shove with the police who tried to stop them. Later, activists staged a sit-in protest. Later, BJP councilors and Yuva Morcha activists staged a strong protest at the corporation.
The protest came after a letter was sent to CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan on behalf of the mayor that the priority list for 295 temporary vacancies under the municipal council should be given from the CPM district committee office. The letter sent on the 1st of this month on the mayor's official letter pad was leaked through a WhatsApp group of some party leaders. But the district secretary explained that he did not receive the letter. The letter signed by the Mayor contains information including the deadline.
