THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A complaint has been lodged with the Vigilance against Mayor Arya Rajendran, who wrote to the district secretary of the party to appoint CPM workers on temporary appointments in the corporation. The complaint was filed by former councillor VA Sreekumar demanding that the temporary appointments made by the Corporation over the past two years be examined. Meanwhile, Vigilance chief Manoj Abraham responded that he did not see the complaint as he was in another function and would respond after examining the complaint.
At the same time, the Youth Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission showing that Arya Rajendran had violated the oath of office. The complaint was filed by Youth Congress National Committee member JS Akhil. Arya Rajendran was sworn in as a councillor and mayor as per the Municipalities Act 143. The Mayor issued a letter to the party leader for the appointment of party members after taking an oath to maintain full faith and respect for the Constitution and not to be biased. This is a breach of oath. Therefore, the Mayor is not entitled to continue in that position, and also as a councillor, the complaint reads.
The mayor has written to Anavoor Nagappan asking him to provide the priority list of party members for appointment in 295 vacancies. The letter was sent on the 1st of this month on the Mayor's official letter pad. The letter signed by the Mayor also contains how to apply and the last date.
But Arya's response is that she is not aware of such a letter. The Mayor replied that she was in Delhi in connection with the DYFI's Parliament March, and that she would respond after consulting with the party.
District Secretary Anavoor Nagappan has also responded that he hasn't received the letter and will check it.
