THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has intervened after a controversy broke out when the Thiruvananthapuram Mayor, Arya Rajendran wrote a letter to the CPI(M) District Secretary informing him of appointing party cadres to temporary jobs at the Corporation.

The government has decided that the appointment to the 295 temporary vacancies in the corporation be made through the employment exchange. The Minister for Local Self Governance, MB Rajesh said that the temporary vacancies will be filled soon.

The Mayor had written a letter to the CPI(M) District Secretary, Anavoor Nagappan, asking for a priority list of CPI(M) workers who must be appointed to the temporary vacancies. The letter has been sent in the official letter pad of the Mayor and is dated 1st November.

In the letter, the Mayor addresses the communist leader as ‘Comrade’ and gives the details of all the vacancies at the corporation. Then she has ‘requested’ the CPI(M) District Secretary to give the priority list of the communist cadres that are to be appointed.

She has also outlined how to apply for the post and the last date of the appointment. This letter proves that the CPI(M) is appointing their favorites to all positions in the government.

However, Arya Rajendran is denying any knowledge about such a letter. She added that she was in Delhi for the DYFI Parliament March and will respond to the allegations after she discusses it with the party.
