THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mystery of the purported letter written by Mayor, Arya Rajendran to CPI(M) District Secretary, Anavoor Nagappan, to appoint party cadres to temporary government jobs is still continuing.

The Mayor has approached the Chief Minister claiming that the letter is not hers demanding that the source of the letter must be found out. However, Arya Rajendran finds it hard to state clearly if the letter is a forgery.

The Mayor after filling a complaint with the Chief Minister said that let the investigation find if the letter is a forgery. Party State Secretary, MV Govindan, said that backdoor appointments are not the policy of the party. He also said that let the investigation uncover if the letter is a forgery or not.

The party is trying to recover from the opposition jibe that it is the party district secretary who is supplying people for temporary vacancies. The demand for investigation into the matter is a ploy to overcome the setback.

It is also a mystery that how a letter like this was sent without the knowledge of the Corporation Parliamentary Party. The CPI(M) is trying to protect the Mayor in this controversy. The party believes that abandoning the Mayor amid cries of resignation by the opposition parties will only fare bad for the communist party. The opposition is accusing the Mayor of nepotism and violation of the oath of office.

The state leadership of CPI(M) believes that the matter got worse for the party because of the infighting at the various levels in the district leadership of the party. The party believes that the leak of the letter and eventually ending up being a news was the result of Corporation parliamentary party secretary, DR Anil, not being cautious. The matter will be discussed in today’s CPM District Secretariat, and Committee meetings. DR Anil who is part of the Vanchiyoor Area Center will be asked an explanation.

After the Mayor’s letter was leaked, a letter by Anil was leaked too. This would be probed to find if it was part of the infighting.

In an emergency meeting of the CPI(M) District Secretariat meeting both Arya Rajendran and DR Anil were summoned and an explanation was sought. The Mayor explained that the letter was sent without her knowledge. When the Mayor is not in the office, a letter pad is kept with the specimen sign of the Mayor for emergencies.

The party believes that someone at the parliamentary party office might have used that to make the letter.

The CPI(M)’s hold in the case is the fact that the letter was sent when the Mayor was not present in the capital and also that the Mayor had not directly put her sign on the letter.
