MYSURU: CCTV footage has been obtained showing that former Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer RK Kulkarni (82), who was believed to have died in a road accident, was hit by a car and killed.

The murder took place during an evening walk near the Mysore University campus around 5.30 pm on Friday. The police informed that they got hints about the accused.

At first, the police thought it was a normal accident. The crucial evidence is the CCTV footage from the adjacent building. In the footage, Kulkarni, who was walking on the roadside, is hit by a car and runs away.

Mysuru Police Commissioner Chandragupta said that it was a planned murder. The incident occurred on a narrow road where four-wheeled vehicles rarely ply. He said that it indicates that the accused were waiting to hit Kulkarni. Efforts to locate the car are underway. The right mirror of a gray Honda City car was recovered from the spot.

Kulkarni, who reached the campus by car, asked the driver to park the car and wait, then went for a walk. According to some reports, Kulkarni was lying on the road and the driver rushed him to the hospital but died.

Kulkarni retired 23 years ago. He was a cricketer, pilot and has authored three books. The book Facets of Terrorism India was released in 2019 by former Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
