SHIMLA: With only four days left for the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, 26 Congress leaders have joined the BJP. The Congress was hit by the shocker as it was hoping to convert the anti-incumbency wave in the state into votes. The fact that leaders including former PCC general secretary Dharampal Thakur Khand have joined the BJP shows the state of decay the Congress is facing in the state. National media reports that 26 senior leaders have joined the BJP, including Dharampal.
Himachal Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, Himachal Pradesh election in-charge Sudhan Singh, Shimla's BJP candidate Sanjay Sood and others welcomed the leaders.
Rebellion brews in the BJP
While the BJP has benefited from the issues within the Congress, they also have to deal with problems from their own camp. BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prem Kumar Dhumal has openly admitted that there is revolt in the party. This time he didn't get the opportunity to contest. In 2017, the unexpected defeat of Prem Kumar Dhumal, who was expected to become the Chief Minister, gained a lot of news importance.
Prem Kumar opines that there are dissidents not only in BJP but also in Congress. But he also admits that since the BJP is more likely to form the government, rebellion is more within the saffron party. Voting will be held in Himachal on November 12. The result will be announced on December 8 along with Gujarat.
